Payhuddle helped transform the CPV process for a leading international payment network with an Online Profile Form

Context

Our client, a global payment network, sought to align its Card Personalization Validation (CPV) process with EMVCo L3 standards.

Their existing CPV process was manual, spreadsheet-based, and involved proprietary CPV tools, making it cumbersome and inconsistent.

They wanted to streamline this through an intuitive online profile form (OPF) that would automate the process for different form factors - CPF (Card Profile Platform) and MPF (Mobile Profile Platform) - and create a standardized, machine-readable output file that could be imported into any EMVCo-compliant CPV tool.

Problem statement

Before partnering with Payhuddle, the CPV process had the following challenges:

  • Manual and time-consuming: Issuers manually filled out card profile forms (CPF), leading to errors and delays.
  • Administrative overload: Coordinating with multiple issuing stakeholders across different regions resulted in fragmented processes and extended timelines.
  • Lack of standardization: Proprietary implementations of CPV tools lacked interoperability, complicating data sharing and testing, with no standardized format like an Online Profile Form (OPF).
  • SLA dependencies: The reliance on manual processes prolonged SLAs, impacting overall project timelines.

Our solution

Payhuddle developed a bespoke, web-based solution that streamlined the entire CPV process.

Key elements of our solution include:

1. Centralized card profile management

A single platform for issuers to generate machine-readable card profiles by answering structured questions.

2. Multi version CPV form support

Supports multiple versions of CPV forms and enable seamless upgrades from older to newer formats, ensuring backward compatibility and compliance.

3. Framework definition

We defined the framework for the machine-readable card profile output file referred to as the Online Profile Form (OPF), ensuring that all EMVCo L3-compliant CPV tools could seamlessly import it.

4. Multi-user access

The issuers could independently generate and manage card profiles without extensive administrative oversight.

5. In-built Bits & Bytes Generator and Parser

Automated generation and parsing of low-level data formats (bits & bytes) for CPV inputs, eliminating manual handling

6. Custom Form Template Creation

Custom Form Template Creation Issuers can define and generate their own form templates, offering flexibility to meet specific regional or internal requirements.

7. Customized report generation

Enables the generation of detailed, customizable reports directly from CPV forms, helping issuers and stakeholders gain insights and track changes.

8. Over-the-cloud updates

Instant updates to card profiles and test cases, ensuring consistency across the board.

9. Enhanced security and access control

Robust mechanisms to manage access and maintain data integrity.

Challenges and Solutions

During the project, Payhuddle addressed several challenges.

Challenge #1

The manual card profiling process was one of the most prominent hurdles. Issuers had to rely on spreadsheets, leading to potential data entry errors and inconsistencies.

To address this, Payhuddle automated the entire form-filling process by introducing a standardized, machine-readable Online Profile Form (OPF) that supports multiple form factors. significantly reducing manual intervention and ensuring data accuracy. It significantly reduced manual intervention and ensured data accuracy across all submissions.

Challenge #2

Administrative overheads posed a significant challenge. Coordinating with multiple stakeholders across various regions proved to be a complex and time-consuming task.

By centralizing card profile management through a single platform, Payhuddle minimized the need for constant coordination and streamlined communication.

Challenge #3

Rolling out updates for new test cases and card profiles was another area that required attention. Traditionally, these updates were time-consuming and lacked consistency.

Payhuddle addressed this by implementing over-the-cloud updates, allowing for instant deployment and ensuring uniformity across the platform.

Challenge #4

The absence of a centralized knowledge base was a challenge for issuers.

To mitigate this, Payhuddle integrated a comprehensive knowledge base within the platform, providing users with step-by-step instructions and good practices, thereby enhancing user autonomy and process consistency.

Challenge #5

Issuers lacked flexibility in adapting the CPV forms to their internal requirements or regional specifications.

To overcome this, Payhuddle introduced customizable form templates, empowering issuers to tailor the forms without compromising standardization.

Challenge #6

There was no reliable mechanism for parsing bits and bytes or generating exhaustive reports, leading to inefficiencies in validation.

To resolve this, Payhuddle incorporated an in-built bits and bytes generator and parser, along with customizable reporting tools, to enhance validation, traceability, and audit readiness.

Outcome and benefits

  • Reduced the time spent on CPV processes by eliminating manual steps and automating card profile generation.
  • The introduction of the Online Profile Form (OPF) enabled issuers to produce standardized, machine-readable files that can be imported into any EMVCo L3-compliant CPV tool, enhancing interoperability and tool-agnostic adoption.
  • The platform ensures adherence to EMVCo L3 standards, minimizing discrepancies and ensuring consistency.
  • Issuers can now independently generate their card profiles without depending on external support, leading to faster turnaround times.
  • Supports both Card Profile Forms (CPF) and Mobile Profile Forms (MPF), enabling simultaneous profile management
  • Customizable reports help stakeholders track progress and validate inputs
  • Multi-version form support and user-defined templates provide flexibility to adapt to evolving requirements
  • Automation and centralized management have decreased SLA durations, accelerating the overall CPV process.
