Payhuddle Assists Nepal’s Domestic Scheme with the EMV Level 3 Certification Consulting for their Partner Banks

Context

The customer is the only payment brand in Nepal to provide technology-based payment testing, certification, and processing services to its acquiring and issuing partners, ensuring compliance with its rigorous regulations.

They wanted their 48 acquiring partners' contact and contactless POS terminals to be EMV Level 3 tested and certified for their schemes' test cases and international partner schemes' requirements.

What did we do?

As a solutions partner on this regional scheme, we configured our L3 test tool, Tecto, developed test cases after multiple discussions with their subject matter experts, and had the tool certified by them. Their international partner has already qualified our test tool.

Our EMV consulting expert traveled onsite to provide hands-on support.

We started the consulting process by planning all testing and validation activities after verifying essential prerequisites, including the validity of EMV Level 1 and 2 certificates and TQM certificates.

We provided complete handholding, from training their team on terminal test protocols to guiding them through each certification step.

We onboarded their acquirer partners, led them through testing and debugging, and supported certification, starting with the international scheme and then with their regional scheme testing standards.

We tested and completed certification of the POS terminals for both contact and contactless in the first iteration using our automated EMV Level 3 terminal testing and certification tool, Tecto. The customer was able to go to the market within two months.

What challenges did we address during this project?

  1. The implementation should not interrupt the customer's existing business operations.  
  1. Establish and remotely coordinate with various project stakeholders: the development teams of the partner acquiring banks, the terminal vendor, and the payment scheme, all located at multiple locations.
  1. Knowledge of the compliance requirements of the international payment brands for contact and contactless testing and certification requirements for different regions.  
  1. Streamlining the entire rollout to minimize disruption.  
  1. Obtaining the necessary certifications, waivers, and approvals from the international scheme.

This regional scheme had its acquirer partner, POS, and ATM terminals, certified in the first iteration, for both the international scheme and their own standards, completed within three months.
